PURDY AND FIGG HAND SANITISER SPRAY

The story behind the product
A horticulturalist Charlotte Figg and an NHS nurse Purdy Rubin, two years ago began a business with their shared interest which was to reduce plastic waste and the number of toxic chemicals we use on our skin!
The first product they made was a natural multi-surface cleaner (not a hand sanitiser) that was made up of sustainable ingredients and scented with 100% pure essential oils which they named ‘Counter Clean.’
“Both believers in the power of natural cleaning and its benefit to your home and health, we started making natural cleaning products in Purdy’s garage, ‘Breaking Bad’ style! Then we held workshops to show others how they could create great products at home themselves, save money and help the planet.

Then, at the end of last year, in the midst of the cold and flu season, Purdy’s two sons Charlie & Jack asked if we could make them and their friends a hand sanitiser for the winter. The trouble with all the gels, they said, was how sticky and dehydrating they were. They smelt and felt toxic, a bleak necessity but not a pleasure or a joy to use at all.”

They have not one but TWO guarantees.. The first being is that their hand spray kills 99.99% of bacteria. The second being is that if you don’t love using it and would like to send back your bottle they will give you a full refund.
GIFTED TO ME TO REVIEW
I’m so thankful they took the time out of their busy schedule to send 4 50ml products to me!
- Original Citrus
- Frankincense and Myrrh
- Charlotte’s Floral
- Wild Woody
Each of the different scents contain a variety of different essential oils – which I ADORE. Products like these are my fave as they are also eco friendly too and without synthetics. I find sanitiser spray to be quite sticky with an awful scent most of the time, trust me I’ve tried a lot this year!
The sizes are super cute so you can put in your satchel, hand bag, baby bag, even your coat pocket to always have on hand whether travelling, at work, at the shops or running after your children!
As we all know, this year has been definitely unique (another word for challenging…) And if you’re wondering what sort of gift to get someone for this year (because what can you buy people who have everything) I think these are certainly a fabulous idea!
It contains 70% alcohol kills 99.99% of bacteria and they use only the highest quality isopropyl alcohol available. They blend this with their formula and essential oils to make a hand spray that keeps you clean but also smells great.

MORE ABOUT EACH SCENT
£5.99 each but can also buy in bundles (for example a collection) and gift sets. Use code: GIFTS30. They are also sold on Amazon too! Also sold on Big Green Smile.
An uplifting fragrance of pink grapefruit, sweet orange and the aromatic naiouli flower power makes up this original citrus hand sanitiser. Energising with anti-depressant and natural ant-bacterial properties – sounds fabulous!
(Due to demand they are using clear atomiser spray caps for Original Citrus 50ml bottles not white. The clear caps look great and the white caps will be back very soon)
“Because all the essential oils we use are 100% natural and unadulterated, they do vary from harvest to harvest. As a result you may experience some slight variation in the balance of the aroma blends from time to time. We only source our oils from the highest quality growers.”
To these magical essential oils associated with Christmas we’ve added sweet orange, pink grapefruit, vetiver and coriander seed. The initial citrus notes give way to the warming, smooth and resinous undertones of vetiver, frankincense and myrrh enlivened by uplifting coriander seed.
I love how it has the Christmas spirit! Literally. Because there’s alcohol in it too… No? Not funny?
Rose geranium is the star of this feminine, timeless blend and my favourite out of the 4 scents.
Combined with the antiseptic and cleansing lemon citrus oil, the overall effect is fresh all the while bringing reviving anti-microbial properties to play.
Pure essential oil blend of Rose Geranium, Lemon (cold pressed), and Vetiver
Blended with the precious and grounding vetiver, an aromatic woody coriander seed containing antiviral properties and the cleansing, purifying juniper berry. This subtle scent is meant to leave you with a serene sense of calm and peace.
Key ingredients
Vegetable Glycerin:
Their Glycerin is vegan friendly plus non-GMO.
Glycerin has natural moisturising properties and is also antimicrobial and antiviral and which is why it is officially approved in the United States for wound and burn treatments. It’s a colourless, originally sweet liquid extracted from vegetable oils.
Isopropyl Alcohol:
They only bottle hand spray with the highest quality pharmaceutical grade isopropyl alcohol (aka premium isopropanol). A colourless liquid, quick to evaporate, isopropyl alcohol has excellent anti-bacterial and virus killing properties which make it ideal for sprays, sanitising and disinfection. These sprays always use a 70% concentration.
Hamamelis Virginiana:
Commonly known as Witch Hazel this gentle every day cosmetic is kind to the skin as well as useful in the fight against germs. The Witch Hazel ensures the alcohol has maximum impact whilst also being gentle to the skin which I think is pretty cool. A botanical extract derived from the Hamamelis tree, it is soothing to irritated skin.
THEIR PILLOW SPRAY RECIPE
REUSING THE BOTTLE
Step 1: Carefully rinse out your empty Purdy & Figg 50ml glass bottle
Step 2: Add to your clean glass bottle two teaspoons of vodka or Witch Hazel (available at your local pharmacy) and 3 drops of lavender essential oil. Screw the top on tightly and shake vigorously for 30 seconds
Step 3: Top the mixture up in the bottle with de-ironised water (the stuff you put in your steam iron) and shake again. Leave to settle then spray on your bed linen or pillow!
OVERALL THOUGHTS
I love how Purdy & Figg was founded by an NHS nurse and they only use the highest quality pharmaceutical grade alcohol. Other bonus points are the quick drying product plus the stylish design. They use glass bottles, not plastic, to minimise plastic usage. The product is quick, effective, stylish and overall really great to use.

oh i love the fact that they are scented too , not so boring, like ones i have been using. Will check this brand out . Kind regards pati robins @ style squeeze blog
