WE WERE INVITED TO THE SHEFFIELD McDONALD’S FOR THEIR FAMILY EVENT!
The McDonald’s we visited is based on the high street, hard to miss with its logo against the beige stone walls and in between music shop and a bank.
First thoughts walking in – busy, clean and decorated with vibrant balloons appealing to any child popping by.
My children love McDonald’s with the cute boxes (always promoting new offers, e-books and a free £1 voucher from WHsmith) with the toys (whatever is currently in trend) and of course every Happy Meal isn’t complete without the nuggets or fish fingers which you get 4 in a labelled little bag.
Last summer we were lucky enough to visit the McDonald’s Head Quarters in London where the children were able to sample the new vegetarian menu that was about to hit the street – which they thought was amazing! I suggested they do vegetarian options in the Happy Meals and they now do Veggie wraps!
I think it’s fabulous they are always getting on board with the new trends, trying to encourage everyone to join in with their food and to cater to those with differing tastes and requirements.
My two older children and their three friends plus myself, mother and even my Nana all popped by as we were invited by BritMums to go to the new event they have available in the High Street Sheffield branch every Saturday 9 – 4 which offers free entertainment from face painting, balloon modelling, games with interactive floor technology.
They no longer offer just a quick and easy convenient meal – they offer family friendly fun so you can stay and play too!
OUR EXPERIENCE
100% a positive one, the moment we walked into the establishment we could see the tidy layout of all the McDonald’s themed colouring activities with crayons and the children immediately cannon balled towards it, once they saw the interactive floor game!
ENTERTAINMENT ON OFFER
- Face painting
- Colouring
- Balloon modelling
- Interactive game
Even the older generation can get involved!

Now what’s more annoying when you’ve ordered a meal and have to sit and wait with bored children? Well, no more! With the entertainment readily available they have their energetic attention diverted elsewhere (this is a tested theory as I took FIVE children – three extra children that weren’t my own!)

In regards to healthy meals as a parent you also want your offspring to eat their 5 a day (pleasseee, just plleeasse eat your veg) and when the food arrives (yay!) the children can sit and open their cute boxes with glee and set their food out.
On this particular visit it was cucumber sticks and melon chunks – please note these change to keep variation and interest. They. Were. Wolfed. Down. I tried the melon myself, super yummy.
Both my own children and friends children loved the environment they were in which was full of people and noise!

FRUIT AND VEG BAGS
The kids really loved the Fruit Bags with yummy melon chunks.
The Vegetable Bags were cucumber sticks and these were a huge hit and healthy too.
We choose the Fruit Bag for the side, or add you can add one in for just 49p! Their Happy Meal® is always changing to make sure you love it as much as your kids do!

THOUGHTS ON THE FAMILY EVENT
My daughter age 9 said “The entertainment was really nice and I loved the screen that you could play on the floor! I loved the fish fingers as it was really yummy with the fruit as pudding. Cucumbers are really refreshing.”
My son age 5 said “I liked the chicken nuggets. Making the balloons was my favourite, the man made me FIFTY swords (think you’re exaggerating there, Oscar) and my face was painted as Pikachu! I want to go again.”
Riley age 8 “I want to go again, I liked seeing my friends and had a fun time!”
Oliver, my nephew age 5 “I love my fruit!”
Terri age 8 “I had a great time, loved having my face painted! I was a butterfly and a Lion!”
My Nana said “I love the idea of being able to tire the kids out and I really do love their cappuccinos.” (She fell asleep in the car, think we tired her out more!)
My mum “I learnt a lot from this visit such as where McDonald’s originated and what it’s about plus what they support and how recycling is paramount to their ethos. It has a very family friendly atmosphere.”

MY THOUGHTS
General vibe is chill although the place was packed, was noisy and full of people eating, chatting with their family and friends. Food wise I enjoyed a grilled chicken wrap and a lovely cuppa!
The staff seemed very happy too and joined in on their faces being painted which was lovely to see as sometimes a restaurant can be a very stressful place to work, dealing with hundreds of people day in day out.
I was told they also put their staff into training to dealing with customers and even face painting which is so awesome as means you can go into a branch and feel confident in a staff member in being able to make your child happy.

So, check out what events are happening in your nearest McDonald’s and pop in!

I had no idea McDonalds did family events. We never really eat there, last time we went was several years ago and my kids didn’t like the food. But it’s good to know they have more options now in the kids meals.

It looks like you guys had lots of fun. We do not eat at McDonald’s very much anymore. I did not even know they were doing veggie options. That is awesome!

My children love McDonald’s and see it is a treat every now and then as they love Happy Meals. It sounds like a good event, I haven’t seen any in Newcastle. I went behind the scenes at McDonalds a few years ago and I was really impressed with the quality and how the store was ran x

They do salads, fruit and veg bags, fruit smoothies and of course hot and cold drinks like tea and coffee so there’s options other than fast food 👌☺️ which the kids enjoyed having especially the mini fruit and veg bags.
And we had a fabulous time entertaining the kids and socialising so that’s always nice 😊
