Salt of the Earth – Vegan Roll on Deodorant Review

You sweat every day. But do you know what’s really happening when those sweat droplets begin to form?

Sweat is a type of fluid secreted by your sweat glands. Perspiration is how your body thermoregulates and maintains a toasty 98.6-degree temperature. In hot weather or during activity, your body produces sweat to cool itself down.

So where does the signal to sweat begin?

The hypothalamus contains thermosensitive neurons that control sweat. When your internal temperature changes, your brain triggers a sweat response. As you sweat and high-energy molecules evaporate on your skin, your body releases energy to return to its core temperature.

  1. Foods like garlic, onions, or cabbage may worsen body odour
  2. Red meat may make your smell less attractive according to this 2006 study.
  3. sweat is your body’s way of cooling you down
  4. Your sweat is mostly composed of water.
  5. Pure sweat is actually odorless
  6. Different factors trigger the two glands to react
  7. Spicy foods can stimulate our sweat glands
  8. Drinking alcohol may trick your body into thinking you’re working out
  9. Men don’t actually sweat more than women
  10. Antiperspirants stop you from sweating, deodorant masks your smell
  11. BO can worsen as you approach 50
  12. Yellow stains on white shirts are because of a chemical reaction.
  13. A rare gene determines if you don’t produce underarm odor
  14. Your sweat may be saltier if you eat a low-sodium diet
  15. Genetics can affect how much we sweat.
  16. You can emit a scent of happiness through sweat according to this 2015 study.
  17. The human body contains about 2 to 4 million sweat glands .
  18. The average person sweats 278 gallons per year.
  19. Some people are unable to sweat.
  20. 35 percent of people experience at least one weekly sweat event.
  21. Sweat is actually odorless.

First impressions are very positive on appearances alone because the design is very fresh, elegant and detailed on what the product contains.

I love their ethos of the Crystal deodorants – which work by leaving a thin layer of pure potassium alum, a traditional antibacterial mineral salt, on your skin which sounds fresh and natural. These mineral salts inhibit the growth of bacteria – the cause of body odour so you can work as hard as you like with total confidence and as a mother it’s simple and quick to use which is even better!

The products are free from aluminium chlorohydrate, alcohol, parabens and triclosan.

One of the worst offenders with deodorant is aluminium as it blocks your pores and prevents you sweating which is why they are great at stopping you sweating although that sweat – which is healthy to do – will come out somewhere else!

Aluminium is suspected in things like dementia and is a potential (nothing proved yet) carcinogen which you can read about here. The basic fact of blocking your pores with it, is that it alters the body’s natural function.

Another natural, cheaper way of neutralising your odour – you can sprinkle a bit of Sodium Bicarbonate under your armpits – not as easy to apply of course!

Many deodorants do not contain aluminium because they do not claim to stop you sweating, they work by neutralising or masking the odour of sweat so they are technically safer. However, some deodorants often contain all sorts of other nasties like artificial fragrances.

These products are full of the good stuff!
