Each Nixplay Digital Photo Frame comes with a power cord and a remote control. Since the frame needs to be plugged in, you need to find a spot for it that’s close to a wall outlet.

Setting up the Nixplay Digital Photo Frame

Set up is quick although does take some time (for me) organising the photos as what was on my Google account but I didn’t want on the frame came up, however, it’s pretty easy once and you just connect the power cord to the frame, plug it into the wall then turn the frame on.

From here, you can connect the frame to your WiFi and start sending photos to the frame!

The frame prompts you to register for a Nixplay account – so set up your account in a few seconds with your email – this allows you to upload pictures from your social media accounts (including Facebook and Instagram) or online storage (e.g. Google, Dropbox). Since there are so many different ways to store photos, it makes sense that Nixplay has made all of these options available.

To add photos to the frame I created an album on Nixplay by adding photos from my Google account and my Instagram. You can sort the photos by date or alphabetically, then drag the album to a playlist then you can order how you want the play list to play in the frame.

 

Displaying your photos on the Nixplay Digital Photo Frame

There are several options for displaying your pictures on a Nixplay frame:

• For brand new photos taken with a digital camera that haven’t been uploaded to your computer yet, you can put your compatible SD photo card right into the slot on the back of the frame. The final option is to use the USB port in the back of the frame. 
• If you want to display older photos that are already on your computer, you can register for a Nixplay account, upload your photos there, and send them directly to the frame through your WiFi network. 

Once your photos are on display, you can enable the motion sensing feature as a way to save electricity. The frame will turn itself off once it no longer senses movement.

There are lots of easy settings that you can choose either on Nixplay or directly on the frame using the remote which is what I prefer to do.

Thoughts

Pros

• So many pros to this product – from the ease of use to the style to the fact you can actually show your photo in a frame when these days a lot of the photos you take aren’t being seen.
• It’s really cool the frame can tell if people are there via its sensors.
• Once the frame is paired to your mobile app, you don’t need to have your mobile device on the same wifi network as your frame to take control of it. This gives you in terms of staying connected with family members – in order to remotely control the frame, or add photos to a playlist, all you need is a special pairing number from the frame, which is put into your mobile app. This means that you could either set up a frame for a loved one before gifting it to them, or if they have already bought one, you just need the pairing number from them to add their frame to your app, so it’s pretty cool!
• You don’t get to see friends and family often if you’re in different parts of the world, perhaps they don’t connect on all social media or perhaps they are older but in the digital era, Nixplay has solved this problem by making it incredibly easy to display photos as well as share them.
• I think it’s the perfect gift for your loved ones as you can capture beautiful moments and instantly display them via the Nixplay mobile application for iPhone and android or send pictures by e-mail directly to the Nixplay Seed. Sending videos per app function is currently only available on iOS devices.

Cons

• Lack of a 3:2 aspect ratio frame to match the aspect of photos from almost every DSLR out there, however, they do offer a variety of interesting ways to either crop or letterbox your photos to overcome this. They make 4:3 aspect frames and not just 16:9 widescreen frames, as this keeps the letterboxing or cropping down to a reasonable minimum if your photos are shot in 3:2.
• The frames needs a power cable is something that I think holds them back from greater adoption just because it’s not as easy to slot a digital frame onto a mantlepiece amongst your other frames and/or ornaments because you’re always going to have to deal with a cable,however, this solution from Nixplay is about as elegant as you could hope for as you may not be able to place it on the mantle over a fireplace but you shouldn’t have any issue finding a great spot for it where it can be seen.
