TREATS for your time of the month with Betty Box!

WHAT IS A BETTY BOX?

Betty Box is a box that arrives monthly containing not only the practical things us gals need but a selection of other goodies and treats too (although it varies every month!)

The website is there to talk about ‘periods, body, life, lols, stuff, style’ and even the mouse is a tampon. You create your own account to order too – you can select Pick and mix – the pads and tampons are branded.

The beauty products are always a surprise and a real pick me up when you need them most! Plus with ‘up to date’ products of what is popular – for example highlighters, sheet masks and blenders for foundations it’s all I’ve seen on Instagram!

The website is a great resource for girls that want a gossip or to find out more about periods.  Bright, clearly laid out and full of interesting articles it’s perfect for all age groups.

This month’s Betty Box has all you need to get in the holiday mood (even if the only trip you’re going on is to your local pool)

July’s box is not only full of everything you need for your period, but it’s also a pretty combination of ‘on fleek’ make up to get you festival chic and majorly tropical treats that are totes about the beach vibes.

Of course it comes with a variety of pads for day and night wear – lets not forget them too! Look at the little bag some come in!

WHAT ARRIVED IN MY FIRST Betty Box?

I received the following holiday vibed products:

BETTY BOX

Candy Kitten Gourmet Sweets

Made with fruit juice, Produced with a dairy free recipe, Natural colours & flavours, Gluten free and also Vegan recipe.

In 2012 Jamie Laing from the award-winning reality TV series ‘Made in Chelsea’ launched Candy Kittens, an innovative, gourmet sweet range that set out to focus on quality. Using the best possible natural ingredients, and authentic flavours in beautiful packaging, the brand hasn’t looked back since.

Acai Berry Vitamasques Facemask

A brightening face mask – nourishing, Acai Berry Moisturising and Brightening Face Mask smooths and tightens. Increasing the skin’s absorption rate, apply the triple layer sheet mask for maximum hydration and a tightened, refined complexion. I just liked the fact I was able to be on trend with the current face mask fad trending all over the internet.

Technic Highlighting Powder

Peach candy – one of the latest shades to join the Get Gorgeous family, the Peach Candy highlighting powder is highly pigmented with a candyfloss shimmery tone that allows you to enhance your facial features. Suitable for Vegetarians and suitable for Vegans.

This flawless highlighter bathes your face in a healthy glow that will awaken the skin. The Technic Get Gorgeous Highlighter is sure to become one of the Holy Grail products you can’t live without! Give your face a radiant natural peach glow. Local places like Tesco don’t sell this particular colour anymore.

Patisserie De Bain Pineapple Hand cream

A hand cream that is very rich and thick so in regards to moisture you feel like you’re treating your skin – contains moisturising glycerine to keep your hands in tip top condition along with the amazing scent! Massage gently into your hands paying special attention to dry patches such as knuckles, in between fingers and cuticles – my daughter loved it.

Beauty Junky Make Up Sponge

This beauty bag essential is perfect for blending cream and liquid make up to create a flawless finish. The curves fit the contours of your face, leaving your makeup dazzling and undetectable. Suitable for all skin types.

1 single ‘We Are Tea’ tea bag mint green tea

Refreshing balance of hand rolled green tea leaves and peppermint leaf, this blend is delicious in hot drinks or as an iced tea in the Summer, was very very flavoursome and I imagine tasted better as an iced tea.

Jelly Pong Pong Coffee and Coconut Lip Scrub

A shea butter-based lip scrub that helps keep your puckers smooth, free from dead skin, plumped & primed. Formulated with pure golden sugar, jojoba and rosehip oil, this jar of lip polish gently removes dry, chapped skin, leaving your lips silky enough to glide that perfect colour on without it flaking or feathering on you.

SUMMARY

Some people don’t talk about periods in our society, teenagers can feel embarrassed, parents can feel insecure or pressured, there is still a bit a taboo about them BUT WHY! Why!

I recall my first period at about 12, I cried. I was at home and I was so embarrassed, I felt like it meant I was a different person, that I wouldn’t be loved anymore as I was growing up. What did it mean for my body? How much would I bleed? My own mother at the time was a Nurse (now a Midwife) she cuddled me and reassured me it isn’t a bad thing and our bodies change.

Now some families or people just aren’t as open about personal issues and back then there was only dial up internet and I wouldn’t have a clue about using Google, we only relied on ‘Sex Ed’ where an uneducated teacher or two told bunch of kids that were gathered in a wooden assembly hall and shown images of ovaries, scrotums and told about Aids on a screen with boys giggling in the background while you sat in embarrassment – that was my experience of learning of the human body so without my mother I don’t know how I would’ve felt open to talk about it.

For years growing up I felt embarrassed – it can be a ‘bury the sanitary products under other things in the trolley’ mentality.

Now, I’ve since had three children and I’ve had my fair share of blood spilt so for me now I have no shame buying period pads, tampons even bum cream because guess what we’re human.

And yes, people just want to avoid the blood talk.

We deal with the formalities, technicalities but we don’t talk about the impracticalities – you know – the ‘other things’ that go with periods, the emotional roller coaster, the pain, the need for sweet treats, the wanting to be looked after.

It’s a great idea and will go a long way to beginning to break down the silence around periods and really to getting girls talking more openly about them. There’s no commitment to the boxes and you get the new product for that month out befitting of a Queen.

Plus if all your friends have a box you can talk about what you’ve all got too! Totally worth trying.

  1. I’ll be keeping this in mind for when Little Miss OMG starts getting her period.

I can see it being useful especially as she is surrounded by boys!

  2. What a great idea! I have to admit I am often ‘out’ of tampons etc when my period starts so having a box regularly would be really helpful. Love the additional bits that come with it too – a real tonic when a lady can be feeling a little low! #thesatsesh xx

  3. Looks great and I agree it’s strange that certain things in society are a taboo to discuss. Periods should be openly discussed but I even find myself uncomfortable to talk about it, unsure of the persons reaction or when I do, they have nothing to say, like it’s a sensitive subject!! I mean, I prefer transparency in all things. But not everyone agrees! Great post xxx

  4. This is such a great idea – I didn’t know it existed. I’d definitely consider getting this as a subs box for my daughter when the time is right. I like the fact that you can try the ‘find your fitpack’ if you’re new to BettyBox – oh and I loved your video – really informative! Popping over from #SnappedUp
