Dental Hygiene and toothpaste review!

So toothpaste! We all use it! Twice a day and the NHS teeth cleaning guide says says:

“Brush your teeth with fluoride toothpaste twice a day for about two minutes to help keep your teeth and mouth healthy. Plaque is a film of bacteria that coats your teeth if you don’t brush them properly. It contributes to gum disease and tooth decay. Tooth brushing stops plaque building up. Try to make sure you brush every surface of all your teeth.”

This is a great toothpaste for several reasons: Firstly, the appearance of both packaging and the toothpaste itself – the packaging is plain white and appeals as it looks professional and as if it could work – a toothpaste to believe in one could say! The toothpaste has a nice flavour nothing too strong and the texture has little beads in it to give the polished effect.

The toothpaste tube stands on its lid and easy to get to and the product states “clinically proven and safe for everyday use” although I found I needed a break for a couple of days as found my bottom molars became sensitive but tried another toothpaste then went back to it and they have gone back to normal.

“Up to 4 shades whiter in 3 weeks” – I’ve found my teeth although look very polished and shiny they still need more time with the toothpaste to get them 4 shades whiter.

“Contains Perlite; dental-grade polishing agent and a naturally derived mineral, to gently polish and smooth your teeth without damaging your delicate enamel. This advanced low-abrasion whitening formulation, containing essential fluoride and plaque removers for stronger and healthier teeth with everyday burshing, aids enamel strengthening and boosts whiteness” – I think it’s an accurate description. (I’m not happy with the appearance of my teeth or the colour although they are clean and nothing a brace can’t fix) but in regards to this toothpaste I think it does a good job with it being gentle on enamel.

I have also tried Pearl Drops natural white which is another product of theirs that is described as ‘charcoal innovation cleans and whitens’ with a dark purple colour and slightly different taste although I think I prefer the Polished White.

It’s important to use a toothpaste with the right concentration of fluoride. Check the packaging to find out how much fluoride each brand contains.

• Adults should use a toothpaste that contains at least 1,350 parts per million (ppm) fluoride.
• Children don’t need to use special ‘children’s toothpaste’ as children of all ages can use family toothpaste, as long as it contains 1,350-1,500ppm fluoride. Children aged six and under who don’t have tooth decay can use a lower-strength children’s toothpaste, but make sure it contains at least 1,000ppm fluoride.
• Below the age of three, children should use just a smear of toothpaste. Children aged three to six years should use a pea-sized blob of toothpaste. Make sure children don’t lick or eat toothpaste from the tube – good luck with that.

Your dentist may advise you or your child to use a toothpaste with a higher concentration of fluoride (if you need it)

 

Make sure you brush all the surfaces of all your teeth, which should take about two minutes.

Remember to brush the inside surfaces, outside surfaces and the chewing surfaces of your teeth. Children need to be helped or supervised brushing their teeth until they’re at least seven years old. More tips on brushing children’s teeth.

After brushing, spit out any excess.
